Artist’s Statement
Approaching jewellery from a painting background, my work has developed through constant exploration of colour, texture, and surface. Metal is the structure on which I assemble and layer enamels, gemstones, pearls and on occasion pigments embedded in resin. My labor is currently focused on utilizing designs and decorative elements that have persisted through numerous time frames and cultures. Adding my own voice to an age-old conversation, I further reinterpret these classic forms through lighthearted play on repetition, form and construction, as well as atypical combinations of materials and colour. Utilizing traditional techniques, my work aims to create beautiful objects of adornment that while inspired by historical design successfully re-contextualizes these elements into a thoughtful contemporary approach.
